I am a newbie here. Very impressed by your DIY CD player.
I am considering to buy a new CD player recently to replace my very-old Sony CDP-897. But, after reading through your posts, I would like to seek your advice if my Sony can be upgraded with the TCXO pure clock. It should cost less than buying a new CD player.

Just upgrade my DIY CD Player.
A) Replace all old PCB,
B) Add a I2S Bus DAC (one Bur-Brown PCM1794 DAC for each channel) (with both Balanced & Unbalanced out)
C) Add Re-data function.

I just know how to build a DIY kits, not repair things.
For modification, I just know how to upgrade the power supply and the clock. (depend on whehter I can got the circuit or not)
What is the model no of you Sony CDP?
I may get some information for you. |

I bought my Pure Clock through the group buy from Taiwan (HKD5XX).
Pure Clock可用於任何的訊源及DA系統上，取代原本電路使用之高誤差、低準確度石英振盪器，讓數位晶片工作在精準穩定的時脈下，獲得乾淨、低雜訊及低Jitter之輸出訊號。
Pure Clock之精準時基來源是TCXO(溫度補償型振盪器)，振盪器之頻率溫度誤差係數為±1ppm，為目前等級最高之TCXO。
由於振盪器為一敏感元件，Pure Clock採用與大廠相同之電路小板懸掛方式，並以O型環隔絕外部之振動，避免轉盤之馬達振動或其它外部振動影響TCXO的準確時基。
電源濾波線路使用L-C-L迴路濾波並以LM317穩壓至5V，在TCXO電路小板上再以L-C-L迴路濾波一次，確保TCXO工作在最高品質的電壓。
So basically if you can find a TXCO with a frequency that is the same (or 2X or 4X) of the frequency of the clock you want to replace, you can use Pure Clock to upgrade the clock. |

Unlike other DIY project where you make a next thing like AMp, CD-Player that build next thing, you need to "remove" the old clock from you existing equitpment before you install the new clock.
Where the process is "destructive".
In case the change of clock is not sucessful, you cannot restore the old machine back.
(I need to take the risk that I will distory my cd-Pro2 module, which will cost me HKD2,XXX)
If you know nothing about electronic, I don't recommend you to do so.
Attached please find the photo of the change of clock of my CD-Pro2.
You can see I need to destory the old closk abd related circuit (remove two smd cap) and fit a new clock signal in. |

Is it necessary to have electronic knowledge in installing the "pure clock"? I know nothing about electronic but want to change the clock myself1 of course at cheap cheap cost.
Can you tell more about how you do this?
