That one is KECES廠製－USB DAC PCM2702, using PCM2702, not the PCM2706 in AW-D3.

Of cause the use of a separate power supply will help the audio quality, but it is big. (You can put AW-D3 in your hand)

And that one just got analog out only.

There is a power supply circuit in AW-D3 PCB but I just leave it alone and use the +5V power from the usb bus.

(You can see from my first photo there is not component in the upper right part of the PCB)

Because of the compact size and no need for external power, then it is a good tools for testing and burn-in of my amp, dac and speaker.

Even with the power from the USB Bus, the sound quality is already much better than my SB Audigy !!!

I will build a second unit with all upgraded parts and a good power supply to replace my SB Audigy in my computer.

The S12.000 is the clock (12MHz) for the PCM2706.

I don't know the case in your soundcard.

But in PCM2706, there is a built in PLL circuit to lower the jitter.

In addition, unlike the case in normal DAC that received SPDIF data from CD/DVD, the data received is from the USB bus and the USB protocol have built in error correction.

A higher quality clock like the Pure CLock I use in my CD-Pro2 will not increase the audio quality of this USB DAC.

What is this (S12.000) and its function? I found there is similar thing in my sound card.

Is it critical to sound effect?

Yes!

You can view it as an USB sound card that have both optical & coaxial out, headphone plug and RCA analog out.

I am so lucky to get this kit (AW-D3) from AudioWorkshop

AW-D3 是一個坐台 USB DAC. (BurrBrown PCM2706)

有 SPDIF out (both optical & coaxial),
可接到其他 dac , 以 computer 作 sound source

有 headphone amp.
可接 headphone

有 TDA1543 I2S bus DAC with line out.
可接到 pre-amp, power amp or 坐台 speaker that with built-in amp

Just completed it today.

The sound is much much better than my SB Audigy!!!!
