 I have bought a Pair of ProAC D15 together with the cc1 center
speakers, very good sound, but cost me a lot of money 
The guy in the shop said i sould buy the same brand for main and
center to get the same sound taste. They will be delivered in 2

Thanks! Guess what, I was out listening to different AV amps last
night... ... and I ended up buying the Onkyo989, which is far beyond
my budget Oh no... ..., but it sounded really good when
comparing with Yamaha V2400... ... I will look into speakers this
weekend |

Yes, there are THX certified speaker out there... but in my opinion,
it's not difficult for you to find other speaker without THX to
sound as good or, in most case, better than those THX certified
speaker. If my memory is correct, THX certified Front speaker
require the dispersion angle to be large such that people sitting on
different position of the home theater room could still pin-point
the direction in the front. For surround speaker, the requirement is
it should be dipolar/bipolar in order to make the surround/side
speaker sound like they are sourced from an array of speaker... |

Guess I better go for AV Amps with THX since I like cinema effects
very much. In that case, I shall go for the Yamaha V2400, any
comments? How about speakers? Are there any speakers with THX
standard? I start to get more and more questions in mind... ...

Hi,
THX has different function when apply to different equipment. When a
poweramp bearing the THX logo, it mean its power output has reached
the THX requirement.
For AV amp, THX mean a lot more. When you apply THX mode to either
Dolby Digital (5.1/Surround EX) or DTS (5.1/6.1matrix/6.1Discrete),
it will do the following :
1. Re-equalization : When the movie sound effect is mixed in the
studio, the sound engineer will somehow tune up the high frequency in
order to compensate the 'reduced' high frequency in a theater as the
speaker is put behind the screen. When such mix is recorded onto the
DVD and playback at home, it may sound too bright. This re-
equalization can help to give a more natural sounding (esp. dialogue)
2. Correlation : For a theater, the surround speakers are arranged in
an 'array' of speaker, which contain more than 1 pair of speaker.
This produce an 'envelope' feel of the surround ambient sound. THX
mode will try to simulate this effect in the home theater using
correlation for the surround speaker. In addition, this is why those
THX certified surround speakers are in most case dipolar / bipolar
design which is aim at providing an 'enveloped' sound field
I think THX effect is quite necessary in the surround decoder. For
power amp, as long as it has enough power, THX or not is not that
important.
