Hi LC , MLC,
You guys bring out a very good points here. However, I think at the
moment the designer of HDCP is too "over securely" to protect the HD
which sacrify those who are only use Display (non-HDCP).
Theoretically, when you connect a DVD HDCP source to another device
like a Converter or Display. The connected Converter must have the
HDCP, otherwise it cannot recieve the correct signal, not even
mention to process the signal. There is DVI-DVI HDCP complied
Scaler (is look like a termination, there is a "Begin" there must
an "End"), but not DVI-VGA (as the no HDCP "End").

I am also facing the same problem. My Philips Plasma's DVI-D is not
HDCP compliant and therefore not support my DVD's HDMI.
Can anyone give us some hints on whether there is such convertor in
the market for help? |

Dear The One,
Very clear explanations. Since my intention is not to pirate the
digital content but to enjoy 720p pictures on my non-hdcp
monitor/projector, I am looking for some sorts of converters to
convert DVI/HDMI hdcp protected singals to DVI-A or RGB (component or
15-pin) signals. I believe the production of such converters should
be legitimate and will not violate the digital content protection
regulations. Yet, I couldn't find such product in the market.
With such converters, many 1024x768 or 1280x720 monitors/projectors
can extend their product life. Why no one is producing such product? |

1. HDCP (High definition Content Projection)
Both digital connection DVI and HDMI spec support HDCP. Whether
the "equipment" support HDCP is the core of the question.
HDCP will use when the source (DVD player) demand a HDCP conformity
before it send the signal out ( video out). If the display cannot
response to the HDCP request from the souce (DVD); then the
communication break.
The HDCP is prevent the user to copy the source into another Digital
media. That means the Display will tell the source they are Display
and not the copier !! Of course the design for HDCP should not be
concentrate on stopping people to copy DVD, as it is cheap.
If your Source (some HTPC) do not require HDPC than your can use non-
HDCP Display or copy the Digital content into another media .

Crack the HDCP (originate from DVD) at the display-end is not a
simple task. There are not many HDCP certified factories can
manufactured the HDCP Display !! White good manufacturer is picking

1、If your display doesn't support HDCP, the picture is a "white
noise" picture, just like this:

2、If there IS a picture, but it's not stable or flickering, check
you DVI cable and connection. The DVI cable shouldn't be more than 5m
3, Definitely, HDMI MUST support HDCP. With a HDMI-->DVI adaptor, you
can connect HDMI source to ANY DVI display. This is guaranteed by
HDMI spec.

9500 can be used by philips pixel plus (I) plasma via HDMI -> DVI
because mazantz's HDMI do not have HDCP?? |

Really 懊...買割 ...hdcp kills me this time!! 
I used HTPC DVI-D out before and there was no problem with hdcp, so
there must be some simple ways (e.g. hardware modification or
external accessory) to tackle hdcp problem. Any one tried it before?
My ignorance renders me making a wrong investment this time. Thanks

I have the same case with you, the difference is I haven't
buy new DVD player. My projector is also TW100.
I am still satisfy the picture quality when it play by
HTPC (DVI out).

setting menus to change the "Input B" setting in the "Advanced" menu
to "RGB".
