back in Hello Project 2004 Summer on BS Hi.
Last time I saw Hello Project 2004 Winter in Yokohama Arena, Yasuda
Kei was not involved and Konno Asami was sick. Of course, Nachee's
graduation was the focus. |

of "replaceable" digital projector with way better PQ...

CRT official support seems to have gone as Barco quit Home Theature
eventually, but even when Sony and Barco still stay in market, fewer
fan really join its expensive annual warranty service afer few years
of use.
In realistic and corerct some wrong concept of many people, CRT
projector is quite repairable and easy to maintain like an old
technology CRT TV set, Radio system or Vacumn Tube AMP (if you have
ever open the cover to check the chassis). The newer CRT models
(most EM focus and modular design after 1995) works like a DIY PC
with modular card swapping. Very serviceble in trouble shooting, and
usually you just pull out the faulty board identified and sent it to
replace or repair by CRT Pro with low cost parts (usually 電阻/電
容/Power supply). Service is not the issue, but the parts are.
Barco, Electrohome and NEC Parts are plenty in stock from oversea
used market or CRT reseller (there are many in US AV Forum and some
in Japan for Japanese brands). Most CRT model with same series e.g.
Barco 8xx, 120x series boards mostly interchangeable.
However, Digital is NOT repairable but just replacable. If you
don't pay for its warranty, once its electronic component or bulb fail they are high cost to replace (it is IC board and most model over 5 years usually no stock parts available from maker - obsoleted due to fast changing model!). Despite its many convenience weakness, most CRT are very durable and reliable as long as it is appropriately installed and proper use.
For years, I have only burnt CRT tubes to replace & one faulty Focus
board ever need to fix (I pulled it out & sent to US, it was fixed &
returned in 3 weeks, just plug it back to Barco chasis & power
on...... it runs strongely until now!). 2 of my 3 9" was shipped
from US and none are in warranty. I can find local CRT Pro or US
forum reseller to call for support at reasonable cost once it is
failed.
Lastly, keeping 3 sets 9"ers for lifetime use is kidding, actually
my two G90 is in plan to set for stack bending at large screen &
parts swapping in future. That is ultimate setup features from CRT
not available in any Digital PJ.
So no worry of your MIT 7" if you keen to stay with CRT. Standard CRT
Tubes life (again if correctly use) for 7" is 7000hrs, 10K for 8"
and 15K for 9" which is over 10 years of use for most people even
watching movie everyday. Chassis (electronic component) life is
100,000 hrs). So your Mit only need to replace or rebuilt the burt
tubes after 4-5K hrs and start over again, my friend's 1209 has
tubes and chassis with 18K hrs and still running although I won't
say it is normal image from 9". |

Hi, 3 EyedMonster,
It is interesting to know someone keeping three 9" CRT PJs and try
to use them in turn for the rest of his/her life. My Mitsubishi is
only a 7" and has over 2250 hrs on it already. I wonder what I
should do when it's life time is gone. Does not like your Barco mine
is directly shipped from Japan and has no support in HK. Luckily I
got some help from an A/V forum in japan to get the key to enter
service menu.
BTW, it is getting more and more difficult to make people understand
only a CRT can display native 1080i.

忠告發燒友們有好的 Barco 三槍機(new Cine 9 if you can afford it) 不要再猶豫. 恐龍快要絕種了! 雖然不是最先進的,但是你可能永遠擁有世間最美好,最自然及真實的家庭影院終極畫面. CRT Forever--> CRT Gone forever!

The deal includes the whole Home Cinema division, that include DLPs (Cineversum version) and it also include CRTs for Home Theature Cine version (Cine 7, Cine 8, Cine 9 which still availables for production) but there is no mention for CRTs on Press Release, not sure if the new Owner will continue Barco's Policy "CRT Forever" to continue CRT development and production. BTW "This transaction results in Barco now being fully focused on nothing but professional visualization markets" ...
As street news noted, TEC/Dreamvision is a company that mainly rebrand projectors. Recent products are Infocus (DreamWeaver with new box around Infocus internals). In the past they also sell a lot of CRTs called 705HD or 905HD that were Electrohome 4500 and Marquee 9500... seems like another Runco (hopefully they are better than what Runco did on OEM Barco & NEC CRT)......
So if you have the budget and serious of ultimate video quality for your home theature, you should buy a Barco Cine 9 which is still available in market (it may on sale with good discount soon), otherwise a DreamVision 9 (TEC's Cine 9 IF ANY!) will be your only decent CRT choice - I won't consider this French version myself.
