"Closed Caption" is not related to "ppl with hearing problem", there are many R1 DVD with "English Subtitles for the Hearing Impaired" .
As starwar 兄 said, "Closed Caption" was designed for TV of North America where they possess a CC function in the TV. Normally HK TV set will not have such function.
If your DVD player do not have CC function, you must use software player in PC to play such DVD, such as PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Also "Close Caption" is different than "English Subtitle".
"Close Caption" is mainly designed for ppl with hearing problem. So sometime, u will see the "Close Caption" not only shown the words of the dialogue but also describe some other background sound (such as baby cry....).
"English Subtitle" is like "Chinese Subtitle" that it only shown the words of the dialogue.
Hope this help..... |

I think not many DVD player can display CC - "Closed Caption". As "CC" is specially designed for North America. However the WinDVD player (PC software) allow to view the Closed Caption. |
