I thought it would be useful to have another source for the latest firmware files and DSP updates for the Onkyo receivers other than the AVSForum so here they are.

Some cautious notes (and legal stuff):
As always: Read the instructions FIRST.
Update Path: The recommended upgrade path for the "Main" firmware should be:
TX-NR905: if below 1.05 goto 1.05 first, then 1.08.
TX-SR875: if below 1.04 goto 1.04 first, then 1.07.
Note: There is evidence, that some older 875 units with firmware <= 1.01 can't be updated this way. So BEWARE ! The prerequisit is, that the displayed loader version "Main Update" must be at least Ver.1.01/07615L.
Onkyo instructions state, that the upgrade / update needs either 1.05 or 1.04 (model specific) as a starting point. If in doubt, check with your nearest Onkyo dealer.
Check Your existing firmware version:
=> Turn on Your unit, push & hold "Display", press "Standby". Do NOT install if Your current firmware to start with for 905 is below 1.05 or 875 is below 1.04, others (805/705) I 'm not sure. If You got an earlier version to start with, there might be additional steps to be taken (DSP:hardware modification + HDMI+NET:additional firmware). If this is the case, and you need them, contact your nearest Onkyo dealer who may be able to help carry out the complete update procedure.
Installation procedures:
The update consists of
...a) DSP Firmware Update
...b) Main Firmware Update
There are two update paths for these updates:
- DSP firmware update: The firmware resides inside a .WAV file (!), which needs to be burned onto an audio CD and played back through a CD/DVD-player connected by an optical link (TOSLINK) to Opt1. There must be a one-to-one copy of the file and it must be transfered unmodified. Most older CD/DVD player will work just fine.
- Main firmware update: The update routine uses a RS232 connection to the rear of the unit. The RS232 cable must be of type straight through (no crossover) with a male and female connector at the end. You need a PC with a COM1 port (default) or a USB => RS232 converter for this, as described elsewhere. The update procedure is been initiated through a supplied setup software, which handles everything.
Hardware Reset:
The AV receiver contains a microcomputer for signal processing
and control functions. In very rare situations, severe interference, noise from an external source, or static electricity may cause it to lockup. In the unlikely
event that this happens, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait at least 5 seconds, and then plug it back in again.
Initialisation ("Clear"):
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VCR/DVR] button, press the [Standby/On] button. “Clear” will
appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter Standby mode.
Onkyo has indicated, that the following method saves settings "permanently" (not on the "DSP" update). Note: It has been reported, that saving Your settings, will not survive the DSP firmware update procedure. Be prepared to redo everything. So write down Your setting before updating the unit.
1) TO STORE SETTINGS (must be done first, otherwise the recall will not have anything to recall):
1) Turn the unit on.
2) From the front panel- Push and hold "Setup", then Push "Enter".
3) The unit will display "Setup Store?", push "Enter" again and the unit will display "Setup Storing", then it will display "Complete" and thus the procedure is complete.
2) TO RECALL SETTINGS:
1) Turn the unit on.
2) From the front panel- Push and hold "Setup", then Push "Return".
3) The unit will display "Setup Recall?", push "Return" again and the unit will display "Setup Recalling", then it will display "Complete" and thus the procedure is complete.
Remember: If you are unsure, what all this means or what you are doing ... Don't do it. Get professional advice, before you risk damaging your unit. The update routines are reasonable "fault tolerant". You may revert to an older firmware anytime, if needed, in any case.

終於攞了舊大石頭875去update 新firmware,好開心終於如願可以在HK代理update(投訴終於接受),服務一流,update了三個字就完成,離開時幫你開門重幫你噤lift, [s11感動.
回家一心想試試,問題來了,点解每次setup完,一熄個power button(不是standby button)所有setup又reset了  ,舊firmware1.04無E個問題,有無brother 有E個CASE,要打電話去代理問問  希望不用搬多次  |

Bird Hing,
I did upgrade once my 905 from 1.03 to 1.05 b4 the Onkyo offer the free fw upgrade. I got the USB to RS232 cable too even though it use the com3 but still working for my last fw upgrade. Thanks for reminding me. |

GOOD2007 兄 : 我隻 1分04秒係up到 DSP 1 同 DSP 2 , 到 DSP 3 就出唔到" 完成" 不過今次主要 UP DSP 1 !!!
用 RS232 升 FIRMWARE 1.08 + CD 升 DSP1 都算係成功 , 睇戲聽歌都冇乜問題 !!! 今次最明顯係自動效正 ........ 未UP 之前前置高底音好 FLAT , 後置後中置細聲到幾乎冇, 重底音更加難頂 !!! 只係 7 聲道距離準確 , WOOFER 去到9米幾遠 ~~~~~~ 
但係升左之後明顯地好 , 唔洗再 SET EQ 都有好好音效 , 係 WOOFER 距離唔準 ONLY !!! 不過 SET 一 SET WOOFER 既距離, 音量多少就已經有好表現 !!! |

Thanks for your help. Finally i got the audio cd burned. But the time is 1:06 after burned instead of 1:04 in wave file format. It has 3 phase like kenchiu hing said. Do you think it is ok or not?

Hi
I am using Onkyo 705 and I have some problem of my update.
the screen still showing "SPDIF update......", I need to switch off the amp manually.
I have found that my DSP 2 and 3 has updated but DSP 1 is not change
my firmware version is 1.4
I use ps3 for my update and I have already setup the optical output and 44.1kHz

Onkyo has specially stated 1.06 and 1.07 will not be released to users or service centers for upgrades. They also will not release any information on what the updates do, beyond commenting that it does not alleviate the problems that have users so unhappy (audio delay, HDMI issues, etc.).
Onkyo also commented on the "firmware fiasco" that happens over here on AVS by users passing around the upgrade between each other. They do not want a repeat and thus will not let lose any more upgrades in the wild. This also explains why Joerod fell off the planet and is no longer commenting on firmware updates.
