According to the instruction, DSP update shall use optical output of player to the optical input 1 of your receiver. You should use Optical cable for upgrading DSP.
For Main, I think you should check your current version before flashing the firmware. I notice from the Internet that the 1.08 upgade is only applicable for 1.05 or later Main. |

啱啱 update 完, 聲音轉 mode 快咗, surround 聽多咗野, 改良咗 direct mode, direct mode 時更加接近 Pure Audio Mode, 基本上可以用 direct mode 代替 Pure Audio Mode, 因為 Pure Audio Mode 轉其他 mode 時會冇畫面四秒
705/805/875/905 用家一定要 update  |

DSP Firmware Update of TX SR 605, 705, 805, 875 and TX NR 905
Bugfix: Pop-noise with some HD-DTS material
To carry out the update you will need the software supplied by ONKYO, a PC with the possibility to burn
a an Audio-CD, a CD player with optical output, an optical cable and your Receiver!
Note: Warning! During the writing process, DO NOT turn off the power or disconnect
the optical cable. If the writing process is only partially completed, the Receiver’s
Flash IC may need to be replaced. Some CD/DVD players are not suitable for this update.
ONKYO advise that if the writing process does not work, please try a different player.
1. Unzip the file, burn it as Audio-CD and finalize it.
File CD_SR6050_08214A.wav is used for TX SR 605 only!
File CD_SR805 123_08214A_07518A_07820B.wav is used for all other models of x05 series.
Please put the CD into the CD player and connect the player to Optical Input 1 of the receiver.
2. Switch on the receiver. Wait for 10 seconds. Then press and hold the “DISPLAY” button and while
holding it press the “STANDBY/ON” button. This will show in the display the main firmware versions
within the unit.
TX SR 605:
Within 3 seconds, press the Tone “ +“ button twice. Now display is showing the DSP firmware
version, press the “CD” button on the Receiver, then press Play on the CD Player. The Receiver’s
display will now say “S/PDIF Update…” for about 15 seconds then “Writing…” for about 30 seconds.
When the writing process has finished the display will say “Complete!”, then “Clear”, then the
Receiver will go to Standby mode. It is possible, that the unit will not switch OFF automatically, in
this case wait for another 10 minutes before switching OFF manually.
TX SR 705 – SR 875 and TX NR 905:
Within 3 seconds, press the Tone “ +“ button. Now the display showing the DSP 1 st firmware version,
press the “Return” button on the Receiver, then press Play on the CD Player. The Receiver’s display
will now say “S/PDIF Update…” for about 15 seconds then “Writing 1 st DSP…” for about 15 seconds,
than again S/DIF Update. Now you see “Writing 2 st DSP…” than again S/DIF Update before it
changes to “Writing 3 st DSP…” When the writing process has finished the display will say
“Complete!”, then “Clear”, then the Receiver will go to Standby mode. It is possible, that the unit will
not switch OFF automatically, in this case wait for another 10 minutes before switching OFF manually.
3. Now the update is complete! You can check that it has been successful if you read out the FW
version:
Switch on the receiver. Wait for 10 seconds. Then press and hold the “DISPLAY” button and while
holding it press the “STANDBY/ON” button. The display will show now the Firmware version's.
This will disappear from the display after a few seconds and the Receiver will return to its normal
mode.

Service station. Please note that ONKYO does not accept any responsibility for any damage or problems
caused by attempting or doing this update. |

As always: Read the f.....g instructions FIRST.
Do NOT install if Your installed firmware 905 is below 1.05 or 875 is below 1.04, others (805/705) I don't know !!!
If this holds true, contact Your nearest ONKYO service point.
Someone suggested, that those updates are universal for the Western hemisphere.
I'm not sure about this... I really don't know.
There might be region or model dependent differences, i.e Satellite Radio etc., which might not be supported (?)
If You are unsure, what all this means or what You are doing ... Don't do it !
Get professional advice, before You brick Your unit.

Another point - Onkyo staff said that thet will bring along the cartoon to pack your amp. What U have to do is to remove all HDMI / speaker cables .... Put down $150 to your Bun Bun for hand over to the worker, then U have no need to wait for them. Ha ha,,,,, |

Just phoned to Onkyo Service Centre to arrange Firmware Update Schedule. Very polite and helpful. Confirmed to pick up my 905 by next Monday afternoon. Though $150 per trip, it's worth to do so otherwise U have to spend half day + carrying nearly 20kg STONE down to Kwai Chung.  |

damn Onkyo JP. nego with them > 3 months!!!  finally can upgrade FW to v1.08.
so next time, think upgrade access is easy or hard when buy a new amp.

昨天與兩位好友一起update,昨晚急不容緩的馬上接好線。
開机!  ....嘩! 心想是否心理作用, 無論在晝面的色彩飽滿度，層次豐富度，人物的skintone方面都有明顯改善!
解决了switch HCMI output 時時沒有pop一聲。
音質的改善方面, 細緻咗,寬咗，但沒晝質改善明顯。
今次Onkyo update 我個人覺得十分滿意, 解釋得很清楚,服務態度也很好! |

Onkyo has specially stated 1.06 and 1.07 will not be released to users or service centers for upgrades. They also will not release any information on what the updates do, beyond commenting that it does not alleviate the problems that have users so unhappy (audio delay, HDMI issues, etc.).
Onkyo also commented on the "firmware fiasco" that happens over here on AVS by users passing around the upgrade between each other. They do not want a repeat and thus will not let lose any more upgrades in the wild. This also explains why Joerod fell off the planet and is no longer commenting on firmware updates.
