My complain to Onkyo Japan:

Dear Sir,

I have bought AV Amp 905 around 3 months. My 905 firmware version is 1.05. And I know that the newest firmware version is 1.07.

However, when I called Onkyo HK for help, how to upgrade my 905's firmware to 1.07. Their answer was, they don't support this kind of service, and they don't provide any firmware upgrade for 905.

This makes me really upset.I was a Denon AV Amp user, now changed to Onkyo, because I think 905 is a great product. However, I cannot imagine Onkyo HK provides so POOR service, this is really NOT Acceptable!!! I hope Onkyo Japan can help to solve this problem and help the Onkyo users in HK. Otherwise, I believe most of us, will not buy Onkyo's products in the future anymore, but change to other brands.

Hope you can help and give me a feedback on this.

Dear Benja Hing,

I have the problem in updating too. I am not quite understand what press Enter means in the procedure file. I unpluged the AC power of the receiver and connect the RS232 with my laptop to the Amp. Turn on the power of the Amp. Then I should see the MainupdateMode message displayed. After that to unzip the update file and so on.

I don't have luck to see the MainupateMode appeared. Would you mind telling me which step i ran in problem.

Dear Benja Hing,
Thank you for your information. I'd also tried both the methods of 1)Unplugged the main power + Pressing the Enter, and 2) Just turn off/on the Main Switch + Pressing the Enter... Those got the same results...
But My 3 Notebooks both internally occupied the COM1 & COM2 and without any physical COM port out there... So I just use the USB->RS232 Cable instead.... Thus, may be it is the problem... Anyway, I will try to setup a Desktop PC to test it once... But require two more days... Again. Thks.

no need to unplug your power cable & reconnect it with press of ENTER button...you can turn off the main power inside the panel, and then turn it on again with press of ENTER button

Sorry I forget to tell you that I use serial cable. One side MALE & one side FEMAIE & our OS was WIN XP Pro.

I have update my 875 on Sunday. My filmware was exactly the same with yiur posted. May I share my experience with you.
1) Did you unplug your power cable & reconnect it with press of ENTRE button. If you do so, you will see Maintenance MODE in your AMP display. 2) I got some trouble when I use my notebook COM 1 port to update the AMP.It show me "Run-time error'8005' Port already open" in my computer display. Then I try it again with my Desktop PC. It was sucess, the running time of the software around 20 minutes.

Onkyo has specially stated 1.06 and 1.07 will not be released to users or service centers for upgrades. They also will not release any information on what the updates do, beyond commenting that it does not alleviate the problems that have users so unhappy (audio delay, HDMI issues, etc.).

Onkyo also commented on the "firmware fiasco" that happens over here on AVS by users passing around the upgrade between each other. They do not want a repeat and thus will not let lose any more upgrades in the wild. This also explains why Joerod fell off the planet and is no longer commenting on firmware updates.
