Hi Li On,
Will there be any firmware upgrade in the future to add the media center feature for MTV3000? I've learnt from the web the little trick to play .TS files on MTV3000 and it works just brilliant. It would be totally fantastic if it can play .TS (or other format of media files) officially.
Looking forward to your reply and sorry for off-topic here. |

Hi PeterLie
- I had upgraded the firmware to 2.01 beta once released.
- Yes, I'm ussing HDMI for audio and directly connect to TV from MTV3000.
- My HDMI audio out is already set to "On."
Here is the problem on my mtv3000
Case 1
- TV is off. MTV is standby for "預錄". Start "Recording", then turn on TV. Sometime is no sound.
Case 2
- In recording mode, sound normal. Switch to "timeshifting" mode , sometime is no sound. If switch back to "REC" mode, it will back normal.
Case 3
- In timeshifting mode, sound normal. Swittch to "REC" mode, sometime is no sound. If switch back to "Timeshifting" mode, it will back normal.
In all of above cases, sound can be recorded for playback. |

I got some problems after upgrading to 2.01 Beta. During recording and watching TV at HDMI for TV and Optical for sound, I found that there will be occasstional no-sound too. I am using Buffalo 500G External 3.5" harddisk. |

Gozilla,
For the occasional no-sound problem, are you using HDMI for audio? Which HDMI TV set are you using?
If yes, please try turning HDMI Audio setting from Auto to On. See if there is any improvement. |

As PeterLie said i can access ( read / write / format ) under Window XP environment after install the EXT2IFS driver from:
http://www.fs-driver.org/
PS : Don't forget to mount the EXT2 format 's HD under Control Panel > IFS Drives ..... |

Tseoishun,
As Peter 佬 explained in detail, it is normal for your Windows to say your HDD is not formatted even after you have correctly formatted it as EXT2 using PartedMagic. You can then use the HDD for MagicTV 3000 recording.
So you can safely ignore the Windows message of not formatted, as long as you leave the HDD permanently connected to Magic TV, not PC Windows.
But if you really want to access the HDD in Windows, you may try installing EXT2IFS driver from:
http://www.fs-driver.org/ |

vanischan,
In addition to following Li On's advice of trying downgrade to 1.06, please:
- unplug and reconnect the antenna cable, and check whether the antenna cable is connected firmly, since the action of upgrading and plugging/unplugging USB devices occasionally will cause the antenna to be accidentally moved or loosened
- when you see "no signal" message displayed on screen, try switching to different channels, such as Ch 12, 81, 85, see if the "no signal" occurs on all channels or only a certain group of channels |

I just learn & exchange from others then try and share to the others, the common rule.
Just use the iso file. 用 Nero 或其他 program , 用 (將影像檔案燒錄至光碟) this function.
Use this iso file (影像檔案) create a bootable disk. Put in the disk reboot the computer.
After boot the PartedMagic. There are 8 icons on the right bottom. Please click the most left icon on the right bottom (not those empty icons on left bottom corner), it is a hard disk icon (it looks like a XBox). When you point to this icon it will show "GParted Ghome Partition Editor".
Window show up on the left up corner and showing message "scanning all devices", after you double click this icon. After that you may find /dev/hda and /dev/sda.
dev = devices, hda = internal hard disk, sda = external hard disk.
On right side of the icon command bar of that window, there are up and down arrows ↑↓, click it to change to the connected external hard disk. The horizontal bar below will show the how many G (???G) of your external hard disk. Right click this bar to place resize command, double click the √ command button to Apply All Operation. ( This resize command = create partition ) Right click this bar again to place format command, double click the √ command button to Apply All Operation. Within 5 minutes format completed. After format completed it is no need to use window and check your hard disk again because window do not recognized EXT2/EXT3. Just disconnect it and connect it back to your MTV3000.
EXT2/EXT3 both are not window format ( This is why window always telling you the hard disk is not format ) but more steady and smooth. We do not use window NTFS because it do not recognized by our MTV3000. We do not use FAT32 because EXT2/EXT3 both are better. MTV3000 can not help you to format a hard disk in EXT2 over 500G but MTV3000 can use a pre formatted hard disk over 500G. This is why we use PartedMagic to format because it help you to format over 500G.
If you find that both MTV3000 and your PC can read your Buffalo 640G ( I mean read the files inside the hard disk ), I doubt that you are using FAT32. ( Buffalo pre format as FAT32 before selling ).
Please connect you buffalo to your PC again make sure your window recognized your buffalo.
( I just mean to confirm the connection is OK and to find out there are one more hard disk icon in the “my computer”. It is no need to care window is telling you it is formatted or not. It is because if you had formatted that buffalo by MTV3000 in EXT2 window will tell you it is not formatted. )
Please put the bootable ParkedMagic disk in your PC, reboot your PC in ParkedMagic program environment then format the buffalo to 640G in EXT2/EXT3.
After format completed, connect it back to MTV3000 and please do not use Wondow operation System or MTV3000 to format that buffalo again.
Investigate your buffalo 640G can record 100 hours HD TV program.

Added: How to access (read/write) MTV3000 Formatted (EXT2 Format) USB harddrive in Windows PC? On the PC, please install a EXT2 driver for Windows, such as http://www.fs-driver.org/
Tomorrow (Friday), hopefully, We will try to release a firmware update for the MTV3000 with USB harddrive recording function, for user to have fun with recording over the weekend! This firmware will have some software bugs and may not function 100% perfect. Please treat it as a "beta" release! After we collect feedback from users, we will release a update version ASAP.
With the recording firmware, it can directly record to a FAT32 harddrive, or it can "format" a USB drive in EXT2 format up to 500G.
We suggest to use a USB harddrive with "auto Power On/Off" function. Some brand name USB harddrives we tested support the auto On/Off function, such as the Buffalo DriveStation, WD (Western Digital) My Book series, and Seagate FreeAgent series. If the USB harddrive support auto On/Off, then the USB harddrive should auto trun off when the MTV3000 finished recording and auto standby, and auto power on when the MTV3000 auto wake up when recording starts.
Generally we recommand a 3.5" USB harddrive with standalone power supply to use on the MTV3000. We also tested a few 2.5" USB harddrive size from 80G to 320G. Those 2.5" USB harddrives also work with the MTV3000 recording, with a "1 USB (harddrive) to 2 USB (MTV3000) cable" for the MTV3000 to supply enough power to the 2.5" USB harddrive. But we can NOT make sure all 2.5" harddrive can work on the MTV3000.
Please post any question about the upcoming MTV3000 recording firmware here! Thanks in advance.
regards,
Li On
