hi, peterlie,
i have one such usb converter, it has a power on/off button at the back, you said it can use the auto power on/off function with mtv3000, so it is a good idea for me to use it instead of the usb external hddjust want to know. but i just want to know: is it that i have to turn on the power of the usb converter before recording, and it will automatically power off after recording, or i need not turn on the usb converter and it will automatically power on when mtv3000 starts recording???

thanks in advance for your kindly instruction

Hi Peter,

It may be, but I'm planning to upgrade my home server HD to 640G, it will swap out some 200G, 230G SATA from my Stardom I want to make use of it for MTV3000. If the Century nude USB HD case support auto on/off I' think I will go for it. I think no matter how big is the seagate that will not enough. (In my Vista MCE 500G is already full)

Thank !

hvgodzilla: Yes, the picture looks exactly like the one we tested. But its price + HDD price is probably higher than simply buying same-capacity Seagate FreeAgent /Buffalo DriveStation External HDD .

Hi Peter,

Is it this one you mention for USB auto on/off function ? I think this one is not bad is support 2.5 & 3.5 with external power and quick swap or the HD

I use a Bufallo 640G. It is working OK.
PeterLie is quite right, MTV format it only as a 500G harddisk.

I formatted it in a NAS in ext3 but MTV has problem recognising it so I format it in MTV (after formating it as FAT32 in PC).

I'll see if I can format it again to use all 640G.

As my newly bought Seagate FreeAgent is out of order, I am going to change it. If 1TB is O.K., I will get Western Digital My Book 1TB.

It will be great if PM or any users can test and confirm whether up to 1 TB will be fine or not since for home users, this should be pretty enough, and it may even sound like breaking a record...

So anyone successfully uses a harddisk larger than 500GB?

作者:PeterLie (221.xxx.xxx.72) 發表主題:0 回應文章:133 日期:2008-06-28 23:51
Copo and Peter 佬: MagicTV will format up to 500GB only, but it should be able to record more than 500GB if the drive has been pre-formatted as EXT2. Therefore, to use a larger drive (such as 640GB drive), please try formatting it in PC as EXT2 format first (using some third-party software).

laiho: Please refer to Li On's very first post for external HDD recommendations.

hvgodzilla: Although we don't have experience with this particular USB HDD enclosure, we at Pixel Magic have tried a SATA HDD Stand Converter from the same company that does indeed have auto power on/off when used with MagicTV 3000.

kambo008: Our recommendation is to use 3.5" HDD with its own power supply, although quite a number of 2.5" HDD/enclosures may also work. In you case, it is either the USB enclosure is not supporting a high DMA mode when connected to MagicTV 3000 (in such case, please try a different brand of USB enclosure), or the 2.5" HDD itself is too slow.

chun hin: Yes, the feature of recording one channel while watching another (sharing the same frequency) will be added in future firmware upgrade.

toysonline: If (1) you have verified your Maxtor Basics 500GB can be read/written correctly in Windows, and (2) you can really format the Maxtor Basics 500GB by MagicTV 3000 (important), and (3) the resulting format can be mounted in PC as EXT2 via http://www.fs-driver.org/index.html , but recording is not functional, then you may consider taking your drive to our office and leave it for about one week for us to investigate.

secmaster: playback of non-Magic TV-recorded video is not supported by current firmware.

Peter 佬: MagicTV will auto standby after scheduled recording only if (1) recording is started in stand-by mode and (2) during the whole course of recording, the MagicTV remote (or front panel in case of MagicTV 5000)) is not pressed. Note: if you want to force auto standby after recording (even if (1) or (2) are not true), press the standby button during recording, such that the auto standby message flashes on screen, then don't press any remote buttons anymore.

Hi Li On

I really enjoy the picture quality and the record program.

I am using buffalo 500G fromated as ext2 by MTV 3000. When I use EPG press R to set record.
MTV 3000 will auto on but when record end MTV 3000 do not auto off and making the buffalo remain power on with green light.
Please advise how to do to fix that.

My Suggestion :
Please support hard disk over 500G.
Please allow us to connect 2 external 3.5" hard disk and modify the progam for people to select hard disk 1 or 2 when record or play back.

I will wait for yours TWIN TURNER VERSION instead of purchase Exxon or Txxc.

Regards

----------------

You should be able to play it in PS3 by just changing .ts to .m2ts

I'll try it and confirm in a minute.

I can now confirm that.

MTV 3K with Hitachi 7k200 SATA 2.5" 200GB HDD,EXT2 format, Cheap $75 MAD'zD 2.5" USB2.0 HDD Case (MD1-U2). Auto spin up/down with MTV. Record and playback no problem

After the driver installed, you could access/play the recorded file even to change the file name.

Kendrew hing,

It's unstable when using flash drive and FAT32 format. You can try EXT2 format.

Install the following driver to access/play the recorded program in your PC record.

Added: How to access (read/write) MTV3000 Formatted (EXT2 Format) USB harddrive in Windows PC? On the PC, please install a EXT2 driver for Windows, such as http://www.fs-driver.org/

Tomorrow (Friday), hopefully, We will try to release a firmware update for the MTV3000 with USB harddrive recording function, for user to have fun with recording over the weekend! This firmware will have some software bugs and may not function 100% perfect. Please treat it as a "beta" release! After we collect feedback from users, we will release a update version ASAP.

With the recording firmware, it can directly record to a FAT32 harddrive, or it can "format" a USB drive in EXT2 format up to 500G.

We suggest to use a USB harddrive with "auto Power On/Off" function. Some brand name USB harddrives we tested support the auto On/Off function, such as the Buffalo DriveStation, WD (Western Digital) My Book series, and Seagate FreeAgent series. If the USB harddrive support auto On/Off, then the USB harddrive should auto trun off when the MTV3000 finished recording and auto standby, and auto power on when the MTV3000 auto wake up when recording starts.

Generally we recommand a 3.5" USB harddrive with standalone power supply to use on the MTV3000. We also tested a few 2.5" USB harddrive size from 80G to 320G. Those 2.5" USB harddrives also work with the MTV3000 recording, with a "1 USB (harddrive) to 2 USB (MTV3000) cable" for the MTV3000 to supply enough power to the 2.5" USB harddrive. But we can NOT make sure all 2.5" harddrive can work on the MTV3000.

Please post any question about the upcoming MTV3000 recording firmware here! Thanks in advance.

regards,

Li On
