>>>Just wonder if MTV 300 could record a mpeg2 based channel and watch a h264 based channel or not
Because I couldn't with V2.03
=====
1) Do you mean that you can't watch Ch85 while recording Ch81?
2) Can you do in previous firmware?
... sounds like you're hitting a single tuner restriction

Thanks for your advices. I plan to backup the files recorded in FAT32 and format MTV3000 to Ext2. So please advise if the following steps are correct:
1) plug in the harddisk to computer and copy the files in the TV and TS directories to computer as backup
2) Format MTV3000 by itself using the firmware 2.03beta or previous versions. which version is stable?
3) Copy the backup files in FAT32 from computer to Ext2 partition in harddisk which is already format to Ext2.
--------------------
Procesure is correct.
It should work. |

Dear PMS,
Thanks for your advices. I plan to backup the files recorded in FAT32 and format MTV3000 to Ext2. So please advise if the following steps are correct:

2) Format MTV3000 by itself using the firmware 2.03beta or previous versions. which version is stable?
3) Copy the backup files in FAT32 from computer to Ext2 partition in harddisk which is already format to Ext2.
Questions:
1) What means of "copied on EXT2/3 partition"? Can you explain more detail?
2) What means of " Windows FAT32 is case insensitive while EXT2/3 are case sensitive" ? Can you give example or how does it affect the recorded files?
Thank you very much. |

Dear ryanenen,
Is should make no different on FAT32 and EXT2/3. So if record in FAT32 and backup the TV and TS directories,
and copied on EXT2/3 partition, it could be played back. But beware of case sensitivity of FAT32 and EXT2/3.
Windows FAT32 is case insensitive while EXT2/3 are case sensitive.

Hi, Keung Hing,
I read that files recorded in ext2 by MTV3000 can be played back by Window in FAT32 if the computer has installed ext2 drivers. So what's the difference if situation reversed. |

Hi,
If the MTV3000 format to Ext2, would the backup files in FAT32 recorded by MTV3000 be played back by MTV3000? |

Dear Daniel408,
For those 500G+ hard disk. You may format it as EXT3, EXT2 or FAT using PC. To format EXT3 or EXT2, you may try PartedMagic boot CD.
Or any Linux distributions with GUI "gparted" or command line "fdisk" and "mke2fs -j". To format as FAT on Windows, you need 3rd party
software.

Tam Wai Kwok hing,
The current test firmware is for MTV3000 only. When we confirm that the solution works, we'll prepare the next set of firmware. Thanks for your patience. |

-------------
It is a very complicated process and require high power PC.
If you asked such question in such casual way you probably will not be able to do it even if you find out how.
No offence.
Suggestion:
1. download the TS file into harddisk
2. use TSPLAYER (member area in DVBViewer) extract the TS file/stream into 1 video+1 audio stream and save as MPG
3. use Nero burning rom to burn as DVD.
That's it.. |

Added: How to access (read/write) MTV3000 Formatted (EXT2 Format) USB harddrive in Windows PC? On the PC, please install a EXT2 driver for Windows, such as http://www.fs-driver.org/
Tomorrow (Friday), hopefully, We will try to release a firmware update for the MTV3000 with USB harddrive recording function, for user to have fun with recording over the weekend! This firmware will have some software bugs and may not function 100% perfect. Please treat it as a "beta" release! After we collect feedback from users, we will release a update version ASAP.
With the recording firmware, it can directly record to a FAT32 harddrive, or it can "format" a USB drive in EXT2 format up to 500G.
We suggest to use a USB harddrive with "auto Power On/Off" function. Some brand name USB harddrives we tested support the auto On/Off function, such as the Buffalo DriveStation, WD (Western Digital) My Book series, and Seagate FreeAgent series. If the USB harddrive support auto On/Off, then the USB harddrive should auto trun off when the MTV3000 finished recording and auto standby, and auto power on when the MTV3000 auto wake up when recording starts.
Generally we recommand a 3.5" USB harddrive with standalone power supply to use on the MTV3000. We also tested a few 2.5" USB harddrive size from 80G to 320G. Those 2.5" USB harddrives also work with the MTV3000 recording, with a "1 USB (harddrive) to 2 USB (MTV3000) cable" for the MTV3000 to supply enough power to the 2.5" USB harddrive. But we can NOT make sure all 2.5" harddrive can work on the MTV3000.
Please post any question about the upcoming MTV3000 recording firmware here! Thanks in advance.
regards,
Li On
