Hi David,

Yes, 1.1A is the peak current requirment during motor startup. Theoritically, it's not ok, but there is at least 10% tolerance in practice. Take for instance, MTV can spin up the 7k200 200GB HD using one USB port even it needs 0.8A.

Neverthless, under the reliabilty concerns, I use two usb ports for 7k200 200G instead of 7k100 80G

Hit 7K100 80G spec;
Peak; 1.1A
Seek; 0.54A
R/W; 0.46A
Standby; 0.05A
Sleep; 0.04A

USB spec. says each usb port support 0.5A, so using two USB port should theoretically gets 1.0A.

1.1A is over spec...

According to the general spec for USB port, one usb port 最大提供电流是500mA. So if your 2.5" HD draw 0.6A or above, it's so marginal and may not be stable during simutaneous read and write, so two USB should be used for providing enough current.

I test with 5 x 2.5" Hd, so far so good,auto spin up and down Ok

1.Toshiba IDE 40G 4200rpm MK4025GASL firmware ZE03 0.7A@5V

I use a very old 80G 2.5" HD; only one usb cable. So far so good.

Anybody using the 2.5" hard disk for MTV 3000? How is the result ? Using the only one usb cable?

I use a 2,5" hard disk wd 160g and it is quite ok.

Please share their experience.
