I guess not.
The 17-35mm has been serving the niche market and I don't think the
Minolta market segment is large enough for 12-24mm or 16-30mm.
Moreover, Minolta has been regarded a conservative company. The
marketing efforts were done to minimal. If it is not the strategy of
Konica, I don't think Minolta will develop the more ultra wide zoom.
If so, it must be an adaptation to the NEW DSLR. |

Will there be a 12-24 as well as 16-30? |

Hmmm....it is very hard to say. Lets look at the 70-200SSM vs 80-
200G scenario. Some said that the SSM version is better, but for me
and quite a few others found that the 80-200G is better. Hack, I
found my Old black version of 80-200APO even better!
So...chances are the new may not necessarily better than the old
regardless whether it is designed for the digital or not. Another
example, I found the old 70-210 f4 not necessary any inferior to the
80-200 APO G. Further, the good old 35-70 and 24-50 f/4 not
necessary inferior to the 28-70G. So yeah, treasure the 17-35G! I
quite like the lens too. |

I opine with you. There ain't no way to deploy the flagship wide
zoom. I guess that KM is re-engineering the lense line to cope with
the future digital empire. The 17-35mm is the pilot one. This zoom
range is essential for APS size CCD. Let's wait.
Hey, if KM issue a new lense of 17-35mm, will the design more tends
to digital photo like Canon 17-40mm f4 L ? If so, ours on hand will
be treasured. |

Bird Hing,
There were indeed, rumours about 17-35G being discontinued, but I
think it would be replaced with the 17-35G SSM. Not sure how much
truth there are in it tho. |

I admire of you for your photo hobby being nourished by your Dad.
You are surely of good photo-genic.
Actually, I have bargained with Cheung Gor for the 17-35mm for a few
days. Cheung Gor showed to me the recipt of the lens. It was bought
on 10th April 2003 at Wing Shing. Being influenced by the rumours of
discountinue to sell in HK and years of buy/sell relationship with
Cheong Gor, I bought the lens at 6,500 (Cheung Gor marked the price
at 7,300).
The 24-50mm is terrific. My friend got one of 700.00 at Tin Cheung
with hood, front and rear caps. I was shooked with the result. The
rendition is surely better than my 24-105. Its size is really
compact for travelling. Its size is just like a 50mm f1.7 or even
smaller. My friend took one photo for me. The photo was posted at
Wing Kai (Stanley St, Central) for several weeks. |

Well I will let my friends to use negative and shoot whatever they
want and I will concentrate shooting 800si, loaded with slides and
mounted with 24-50 for everything I want. |

I bought the lens for HKD 4,000 at Zhao Xian Guan, Tung Ying, TST.
They are displaying one for HKD4,200. I chose mine for the glasses
are more clear. Please check the glasses carefully if you are
interested in it.
Welcome for joining 300mm f4 - Minolta.

But Mark Hing, Both 800Si and 7 provide us the flexibility for mid-
roll change film and work quite nicely (well, the 7 is much
better) |

Just wondered, if you are bringing the 24-50, is the 24-105 still
necessary? I am seriously thinking about getting a 24-50 as well.
BTW, do you know if there is a housing for Ixus 400? |

I have read carefully the rating for ultrawide zoom. It seems that
Minolta's 17-35 is much better Sigma's 17-35 and the price reflects
this fact.
I am going to use this famous 24-50 for my Thailand trip, along with
24-105. |

Actually. my family has known "Dai Chung" for a very long time, back
when my Dad was heavily into photography, so we know most of the staff
quite well.
As for the 17-35G, I guess the price is OK for an almost new lens as
the brand new one runs for about $9100. Did you bargaion with "Cheung
Gor" or "Ar Chiu"?
BTW, my friend has just bought a 24-50 f/4, excellent lens, many said
that it is better than my 24-105D and as good as my 28-70G.
Recently, I have found a place that sells Minolta gear quite cheap,
also in TST called "Chung Oak", their Mamiya stuff are also quite cheap. |

Thanks for your experience. I just bought a 2nd hand Minolta 17-35mm
f3.5 at Ziao Xuan Guan, Tung Ying, Tsimshatsui at HK6,500. The lense
is of 99% new only with a little scratches on the lense hood (boxed
condition).
Still not yet completed the first roll of film. I will inform you of
the result.
By the way, having considered info from your previous topic, I have
bought a Minolta 24-105mm f3.5-4.5. It's really light weight as
compared to the 28-70 f2.8G. The result was nice, not far behind my
28-70mm f2.8G (Just what you have told me).
For 'Dai Chung', are you soliciting help from Ming Gor? |

Bird hing,
In theory the 85 1.4G is suppose to be optically the same as the D
version. However, I found that my old 85 1.4G has a slight edge over
my 85 1.4G (D) Limited. It performs better under high contrast
condition. May be thats just me.
I can order the 17-35G from "Dai Chung" in Central for about $9xxx, if
you really want one real bad! |

I have spent a few days for wanting one (Minolta 17-35mm f3.5G) but
was always being replied with 'Out of Stock' (even at Wing Shing).
Having heard that Konica Minolta will not send the said lense to HK
for its low sales performance?
Can any body prove or heard same messages (rumour)?
Pegasus, what do you think the 85 f1.4G or 85 f1.4G (D)? Is it the
only difference of the exposure metering while the lense quality are
of the same.
Thanks,
birds |

May I know other members' experience with ebay?
I'm not too confident to buy overseas over the internet.
Also what will be the typcial shipping cost for an item, say a
camera.
