I just tried once time agaist the clock, need try more times.I basicaaly not use tripot, too complex, this shooting was also held by hand. |

100-400L does not work with 1.4x on 30D and 5D.............that's part of the reason waiting for 1D III. |

You really shoot a sparrow?! But I do not think this is the purpose you want to get a 500/4. If add a 1.4 to your 100/400, will it be tele enough for shooting birds?
I found that 1D Mark III has one interest advantage - let user adjust Out Of Focus with up to 20 lens by himself. 
Do you think when Canon will issue a FF with this advantage? |

James............just fun with 1D MarkIII. The 10fps is amazing. Put it aside, 500/4 allows me to use 1.4TC on 30D so the effective focal length will be 1120. If we get close enough, we can still get some amazing bird photo in Hong Kong
Despite the wide variety of bird here, it is still very difficult to get a better bird shot for me and sparrow is good enough for me |

Might be James......................shot by others from Sony forum using old old Minolta 300/4 which Bird also loves. I just want to illustrate the colour difference between the two technology. For Canon, 300/4 is just too short for birding so............I am saving for 500/4  |

After viewed of your opinion, I have repeatedly checked my old photos by Minolta 7D, Nikon D200 and Pentax K10D. I still like the photos by CCD more even the Canon 5D produces brilliant colour and razor sharp images. I was drunkened by the 3D perspective effect being produced by CCD. |

With all cameras we have seen and used, colour should be the most important factor. What puzzled me is why CMOS sensor, which was stated previously being inferior to CCD, produces more acceptible colour than CCDs, as seen in D2X vs D200, Canon vs others, Sigma vs others, R1 vs others |

By the way, as time goes by, my fond of 4/3 system lowered. OM really disappointed me. Panasonic is not historical enriched DSLR manufacturing company, neither Leica. So, will OM sell their intellectual properties and withdraw?
Sony is getting into hot water ????? Will the Minolta staff buy the empire and strike back????? |

bird hing, sorry for not calling you because of my family trouble matters.
From the wording you mention about your wonderful camera journey, i totally agree with you on your taste of nikon, minolta, sony , panasonic , pentax and olympus.
I have buy and sold the cameras of these companies and found canon 5D can really produce the taste i want albeit expensive.
olympus E500 is a like weight camera and i add 14-54 f/2.8-3.5 lens on her and this is still my current travelling camera.
For this time, i add Carl Zeiss Contax 135mm2.8 with adapter on my E500 to be my 270mm f/4 lens for this 4/3 system
For macro , i use olympus ZuikoDigital 35mm3.5 macro lens for my office.
-i have use pentax K110 before but low resolution for me
-D200 nikon is the strong camera for me but i sold
-5D canon give me real fantasy in creating ultimate pictures
-Sony R1 had been my ..... i like her most
-canon 30D, i really dont like her.
-minolta 5D had given me very good pictures at that old days
-canon 400D,300D ,350D that i play get me feel i am up-to-date's youngman
-nikon D50,D40,D80 is my past cambo, partners that remind me of using my father's nikkormat
-Panasonic L-1 with 14-54 vario-elmarit is still my happy partner at that time, may be i had not use her too much.

- Sony alpha 1 with 16 mega pixels and 24-120 vario sonnar
- Panasonic L-3 with 20 mega pixels and 12-40 vario elmarit
