- Mark, yes, several highhands said this lens is one of the best lens in Canon, this is also the major reason for us to buy it. But both of us find it is not easy to use it well, especially while you want to shot a portrait, you have to go forwrad, almost closing the guy's nose, and sometimes, distortion occures, like a bigger head on a small body. Need more tryout.

- Sunny, I asked Linda re your question. Linda said that she has no any ideas for what the best aperture is. She just transderred from small Sony DC to 5d, and never have a look at data through viewfind before pressing shutter. Her policy is (1) Look (2) Compose (3) Shot
I think if we could find MTL courve of this lens, we will know.
