Sunny, I have shot several comparison night sightseeing by using these two cameras. The highest setting is 3200 as 1Ds Mark III has no ISO6,400, but I tested D3 at both of ISO3,200 & ISO6,400, will post soon.

Don't do Bird Hing's test, do my test first, because .............
My cousin who is using 5D in UK read your test. He quickly called me to invite you to do a high ISO performance and compare between D3 and 1Ds mk3. Is it possible to do so when you are not so busy ?
In UK's camera review on various photography magazine, my cousin said all the good comments go to D3. Plus the unhappy incident with 5D, he is considering to switch to D3 full frame. So he has great great desire to see the high ISO performance.
But if you do not have enough time to do so, no problem, no need to be hurried. We all will wait for you. Thank You !!!

Sunny, I agree with you, probably we could say:"Under the same brand and product line, higher pixels is always better than lower ones." And as you know, I always say:"Canon is a toy, while Nikon is an instrument", but for 1 Ds Mark III, it is a VERY GOOD body. Compare with 5D, it is an INSTRUMENT, rigid, reliable, always could offer you acceptable photos.
Birds hing, I also want making such trial, but need your direction - which adapt ring I have to buy for fitting a ZF lens onto both of 1 Ds Mark III & D3 without any risks? |

You have proven my idea to D3 during our last conversation over phone. Thanks.
Hey Brother James, may I suggest you to arrange a test for the both DSLRs by common lens, such as Zeiss ZF on D3 and with adaptor of Ai to EOS on 1DsMk3. By using the same lens, we can have more control and constant factors for the outcome.

So at least we prove that : under the same full frame 24 x 36, the greater pixels always have the better performance.
But the EF lens is fixed focal length and Nikkor is zoom lens, there may be some impact, isn't it ?
Considering the price and the MOST, MOST, MOST significant factor I learnt from my 5D. I would choose ................D3. Nikon's advantages on the camera and lens is 'Reliable' always, from time to time. Not like Canon, Canon sometimes is ..................., my 5D is .....................
