I shot the photos by Standard Mode but because of the lighting from straight above, many shadowed details would be lost. So, after changing several modes, I decided to choose Neutral Mode to retain the shadowed details better and lower contrast to control hi-light points. |

Great performance of the 1D mk3 AI servo. No wonder that all sport photographers use 1D/1Ds series.
But for me, I would not choose 'Neutral' mode. I like vivid colours, that is also one of the many strengths of Canon camera and lens.

In the night before yesterday, I was thinking in what way should I take the photos differ from before. A personal breakthrough is really not easy when the place, subject and lightings are nearly the same.
Then I decided to go by a more risky way of taking the photos, that is to wait until the horses approached me then press the shutter. This would allow to deliver more close-up of the texture of the horse body, the action and face of the rider and the splashed mud being digged. I thought it would let the photo watchers to get more impressed of the speed and the excitment of the racing. |

Ohh, you were also there, one of the gentlemen. What clothes were you wearing?
It was too hot so I went back to my table for air-con. Also, among the gentlemen, I was too young skillful and I did not want to hinder other high hand (such as 'nohead' of dchome) for a good place of better angle. So I went towards at about 200mm from the winning pole where not many people staying at. It was so interesting to have 6-7 people standing together and pan the lens at the same time, lovely. |
